| Panamas Hostels |
If you're looking for hostels in Panama this is where you will find the most comprehensive list. In Panama, hostels are a relatively new concept so you won't find them in all areas of Panama. Our aim is to bring together all the hostels in Panama onto one website to make your traveling easier. Select one of the provinces below and you'll be shown all the hostels that are there. Move through the provinces and you'll be able to plan your travels.
Currently most hostels in Panama are located in a limited number of areas. Panama City and Bocas Del Toro have the most hostels, followed by Boquete, Santa Fe and Santa Catalina. These are also among Panama's most popular tourist destinations and are sure to be on your list of places to vist.
Panama City (Panama province) is known as a modern city and has great nightlife, Bocas (Bocas Del Toro province) is where you go if you're after the caribbean party scene, Boquete (Chiriqui province) has the mountain walks and Santa Catalina (Veraguas province) has some of the best surfing and diving in the world. |

Also don't be fooled by the more common Panamanian "HOSTAL" as compared to the more western "HOSTEL". You all know what a hostel is, it has a fun atmosphere and is a place where you'll meet other travellers such as yourselves. A great example is Hostel Mamallena in Panama City. It has large social areas, the atmosphere is what you're after and the prices and services are everything you'd expect from a backpackers hostel.
A hostal, on the other hand, is more what we would call a Bed and Breakfast. The focus is more on double rooms (very rarely have dorm rooms), they don't have the same social atmosphere and the prices are not in the normal backpacker range!! Dims Hostal in Pedasi is an example. it's a great place, nice rooms and a good outdoor area. But it's probably also outside the budget of your average backpacker in Panama.
Don't get caught out and go to a town thinking there's a hostel. Check here with us first. That said, there are some great little towns in Panama that are off the Gringo trail and the fact that there isn't a hostel there shouldn't stop you from visiting them. |

Featured Hostel: Hostel Mamallena,
Panama City.
We're now bigger and better, with more room and still the same great Mamallena atmosphere. One of the only hostels in Panama City in a large colonial style house, this is where you will get to experience the real Panama. Perejil (Close to La Exposicion in the Lonely Planet) was once one of the most upmarket areas of Panama City, now it's a middle class neighbourhood with tree lined streets and a peaceful atmosphere.
It's managed to avoid the Americanisation of El Cangrejo and the poverty and subsequent gentrification of Casco Viejo, but still be within easy walking distance of the best that Panama City has to offer. Close by is one of Panama City's main streets with transport options to everywhere you want to go. |
